If you’ve ever doubted the worth of brand advertising, then this video may change your mind. Big brands like Coca Cola spend millions a year on advertising, but we all think advertising doesn’t influence us. You may not even be aware of how it can impact your decisions.
Derren Brown set out to turn the tables on advertisers by using subliminal advertising on them. He says “they subtly weave their images and slogans into our daily lives knowing that we will register so much unconsciously and that we will walk into a supermarket and feel a sense of familiarity with a brand we think we’ve never seen before.” Brown invited two execs from an advertising agency to help design an advertising campaign for a new chain of stores. He gave them subliminal cues by carefully choosing their surroundings in the taxi cab ride over. Then, without any further prompting, the advertisers designed exactly the campaign he expected them to. But don’t take our word for it, watch the video.
Hard to believe this could be true, but for some reason I have a sudden craving for a coke…
