GolfLogix is an awesome app for golfers, and they’ve partnered with us to make the most of their success through in-app advertising! Already established in the Golf GPS hardware space, the GolfLogix mobile app allows players to track their stats like a pro and see their position anywhere on the green. With maps of over 26,000 golf courses worldwide, both casual and dedicated golfers will love having GolfLogix in their pocket. GolfLogix is now the #1 App for Golf and is available to download on iPhone, Droid, Blackberry, Palm Pre, and Windows.

1) What inspired you to build the app?

GolfLogix was one of the top brands in the Golf GPS hardware business and saw a huge opportunity to make our Golf GPS software available as an App on devices that most everyone carries. Rather than spending $300 on a golf specific device, golfers are now able to load our App onto their smartphone. The biggest benefit with the App platform is that it allows us to update software and provide our customers with new upgraded features as often as we like instead of being restricted by a specific golf device. GolfLogix is special in the App world because it allows users to try our full App for free and then upgrade to a Champion membership for $39.95/year. Our free Club members still get access to many of our best features and are out on the golf course staring at their phone for 4 hours.

2) Why does the ad revenue model make sense for you?

Although we don’t have a gaming type of download volume we make up for it in the amount of ads we can serve to our highly desirable golfer demographic while they are playing a round of golf. The average golfer is on the course for at least 4 hours and we are working with Mobclix to serve up a combination of banner and autoplay ads as golfers play each hole. We will also be displaying our house ads encouraging our free members to upgrade to our $39.95/year membership. We believe the combination of mobile ad revenue and customer upgrade opportunities will help to increase our revenue in 2011.

3) Why did you choose Mobclix?

We were looking for a hands-on partner to work with us to sell our mobile ad inventory. We have a unique application with a highly desirable demographic and Mobclix is helping us generate the highest eCPMs available.

4) What tips do you have for other developers?

Don’t forget that you don’t have to give everything away for free. Having both a lite (ad supported) and paid version can be a solid strategy to increase awareness/downloads of your app and at the same time grabbing those that you know will pay for it.
