TrippingFest 2 Lite has been a sudden app store success for creator, Forrest Heller. It’s gotten as highly ranked as number two in all free apps. It’s a fun drawing app that takes full advantage of the iPhone’s great touch screen. Heller knew nothing about iPhone programming before creating the app, and created the first version in a week!
Daily Downloads: up to 250,000
Daily Ad Impressions: up to 7,500,000
We interviewed creator Forest Heller:
1) What inspired you to build the app?
“I ran into the TrippingFest concept by accident around 2003 when I had a bug in some code to draw a line. I built two incomplete desktop versions before deciding to take advantage of a touch screen.
I built this app to increase the craziness of pictures you can draw. I think that most drawing programs today are really impressive versions of Microsoft Paint. TrippingFest is different in that it draws a LOT of things on the screen and there are many ways to combine simple patterns, symmetry, and color.”
2) Why does the ad revenue model make sense for you?
“TrippingFest Lite is a trial program that is released for free. Advertising helps absorb losses from releasing a free version.”
3) Why did you choose Mobclix?
“I chose Mobclix mainly because I didn’t have a lot of time to deal with the overhead of managing advertising. Mobclix’s ability to automatically sign me up for advertising networks and manage those accounts was a great help. I am completely new to advertising and Mobclix not only held my hand, but carried me.”
3) What tips do you have for other developers?
- “Don’t use the “Snapshot” feature of XCode”
- “The only app lists that matter are the app lists kept by iTunes”
- “Do something original”
